Anchorage, July 31st, 2013
Over The Rainbow Toys announced today that they will host the official launch of Alaska Lullaby,a new children’s book based on a song by Anchorage musician and songwriter
Mary Jane Riemann.
This musical book includes a link to download a recording of Mary Jane singing her lullaby.
The book launch party will be held Saturday, August 10th from 1‐3 pm at 12201 Industry Way, in the Huffman Business Park next to the Huffman Post Office. Ms. Riemann will be present to sign books, demonstrate how it plays the song and share the “living book” video of Alaska Lullaby.
In further support of literacy in early childhood, Over The Rainbow is partnering in this event with thread, Alaska’s statewide Child Care Resource and Referral Network and their Annual Book Party in the Park. New and gently used books will collected all day Saturday, and any books purchased at Over The Rainbow to be donated to the Book Party in the Park will receive a 50% discount.
“We are thrilled to showcase this new book with its message of enduring love
and beautiful paintings of our great state,” says Janet Gregory, owner of Over The
Rainbow Toys. “Every time I hear the song, it just makes me want to hug my kids!
And we’re really happy to be able to support the thread Book Party, because literacy
is so important in early childhood. Starting early, reading simple and evocative books
like this to baby at bedtime, encourages a life‐long love of reading.”
The 7th Annual Book Party in the Park will happen on Thursday, August 15th from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Success By 6 Garden Art Park located at 3350 Commercial Drive in Anchorage. Parking is available in the Clark Middle School parking lot. This FREE event is open to the public and promotes literacy. Children of all ages will receive free books to enjoy and read with their families and friends. There’s fun for the entire family with activities like storytelling, arts and crafts, bubbles, face painting, live entertainment, door prizes, food, car seat checks, and more!
The Book Party in the Park is sponsored by First National Bank Alaska, ConocoPhillips, Fred Meyer and thread. Throughout July and the first week of August, new and gently used books will be collected from the community for distribution at the Book Party in the Park.
